WHY STRATEGIZE ABOUT HEALTHCARE SAFETY?

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), overall employment in healthcare occupations is projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations from 2022 to 2032. About 1.8 million openings are projected each year, on average, in these occupations due to employment growth and the need to replace workers who leave the occupations permanently. Research shows that the physical demands in healthcare can be described as medium to very heavy in 51% of workers' roles and responsibilities.

Adding to the rising risk of injury is the aging workforce. By 2024, BLS projects that the labor force will grow to about 164 million people. That number includes about 41 million people who will be ages 55 and older—of whom about 13 million are expected to be ages 65 and older.   Claim costs rise with age, on average, the older the employee, the more expensive the claim.

Sprains and strains or "overexertion" represent the most common injury type in healthcare, accounting for nearly 45% of injuries.  These injuries are costly and disruptive to the employer and employee.

The Covid pandemic compounded the problem by making us more vulnerable to sprains and strains due to inactivity and a more sedentary lifestyle.

Studies show that education and training can lead to a considerable reduction in employee injury rates.

One that strives for longevity, health and happiness at work.  We do this by systematic analysis, team building and education in best-practices which leads to client profitability.   As healthcare workers, we understand that patient's needs frequently supersede our own even at the cost of injury to ourselves.  Our goal of zero workplace injuries is possible through the understanding that patient and employee safety can exist harmoniously.
